Matthew Chapter 5
Matthew 5:5 refers to Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Matthew 5:21 refers to Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. Deuteronomy 5:17 Thou shalt not kill.
Matthew 5:27 refers to Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. Deuteronomy 5:18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
Matthew 5:31 refers to Deuteronomy 24:1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
Matthew 5:33 refers to Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Leviticus 19:12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.
Matthew 5:38 refers to Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Leviticus 24:20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. Deuteronomy 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Matthew 5:43 refers to Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.
Matthew 5:48 refers to Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
