Burn is the eighth studio album by English rock band Deep Purple, released on 15 February 1974. It was the very first major-debut album to feature then-unknown lead singer from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, David Coverdale, and Glenn Hughes, from Trapeze, on bass and vocals, marking the first headline of the band's Mark III line-up. Those members also consist of Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Jon Lord on organs/keyboards and Ian Paice on drums.
In its musical context, Burn mostly consists of 70's hard rock implied as their influence from their previous albums, particularly Machine Head. For the first time, the band has focused more on their path on blues, featuring strains of funk rock-oriented genres, which would become more incorporated in later albums during the Mark III-IV era until 1975.
The album has received favorable reviews and accolades, but some did not favour the record shortly after its release. Burn charted in 13 countries, with the record peaking at number 3 in the group's native UK, also at number 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album's supporting tour was the biggest achieved success as they were one of the most well-known rock bands in the world. The line-up would eventually have tensions after the supporting tour and their next upcoming album, with Blackmore departing in early 1975. Burn received a reissue in 2004, featuring remastered and remixed versions along with a track that was previously unreleased.
