Emanuel Augustus, aka Emanuel Burton, has one of the most deceiving records in boxing (38-34-6). Having fought tough competition his whole career, he was pigeon-holed into the role of a journeyman opponent in a sport where a competitor's W/L record is more vital than their ability. As a result he constantly fought young prospects and contenders in their hometowns, often on short notice as a replacement fighter. Even his 2001 Fight of the Year against Micky Ward was taken on 2 weeks notice.
His toughness, durability, heart, skill, and "on the job" training allowed him to mix it with anyone, even Floyd Mayweather, but his lack of superior knockout power and tendency to lose focus meant most of his fights went the distance leaving the fight's result in the hands of the judges. More often than not Augustus did not experience accurate scorecards, including the fights he honestly lost where the scores were overly lopsided. He wasn't always robbed in plain sight like his 2004 bout against Courtney Burton, but it was enough to cripple his W/L ratio.
