The Bestiary, Ep 4: Orcs (D&D 5e, Pathfinder, 40k - So, You Want To Be A GM)

There's no question orcs are iconic creatures in fantasy. They are an all but ubiquitous antagonistic force across the genre, bringing with them an element of savagery and brutality that is, well, far from unique. Savage and brutal enemies are a dime a dozen and with orcs having been so prevalent for so long they've slowly turned away from the kind of enemy you could build a campaign around to a kill-it-then-forget-it low level obstacle rife with homogenization.

But is this a fair view to hold of the orcs, or is there something more to them we're just not seeing anymore? And if it is fair, what can we do to change that? In this episode of The Bestiary, we'll attempt to answer these questions and more as we examine some of the many interpretations of orcs.
