Chapter 1: Point Insertion

Half-Life 2 begins with the chapter Point Insertion which serves as an introduction to the game world. Here, the player begins to learn of the events that took place and what the Earth has become in the intervening time period between Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

Chapter 2: "A Red Letter Day"

This chapter mostly consists of character interaction, introduction, and plot exposition, setting up Gordon Freeman's goal for the next two chapters.

Chapter 3: Route Kanal

This chapter details the first half of Gordon's journey to Black Mesa East through the canal network and reveals further information about the state of the Earth, the organization of the resistance, and the operation of the Combine forces.
