I seem to be inundated with video conference lights these days. They all work and do their intended job of brightening up the face during video calls and this new £19.99 model from Firbon is no exception, This one, like them all, is portable, quick and easy to set up and give a flat and even light across the face
In the box was the ring light itself with an in-line control box hard-wired to it, a heavy-duty and robust metal bulldog clamp with a universal ball and socket mount attached, and a simple and easy to read user guide, Build quality all seems fine, the 117 mm ring light is made from lightweight plastic but with a metal frame and seems well made enough, the bulldog mount is made from metal and is built like a tank, has a maximum grip size of 59 mm and padded jaws.
The light is powered by USB and comes with about 1.5m of cable with a small backlit control box midway. The control box allows the user to scroll through the ten brightness levels and three colour temperature levels – warm white, daylight, and cool white – as well as turn the unit off and on. The clamp works well, is very secure with the ball and socket adjustable mount equally well made. I found that the mount strong enough to be easily be repurposed as a camera mount for Arlo and similar indoor/outdoor security cameras and lights. The design of the clamp allows it to double as a self-supporting tabletop stand for the light.
The is a nice little unit, well made and well designed, larger in size than most rivals and works well with a minimum of fuss and bother. This model lacks the mini tripod found in some rival kits but here the clamp can perform that task just as well.
This is an excellent buy for anyone that uses their computer camera to keep in touch with the world.
