Holst completed this short work for piano and violin in 1902. At this time the primary income for Holst was his role as lead trombonist with the Carl Rosa Opera Company. Correspondence from the time show that the true passion for Holst was composition, and that his job with the Opera Company was as a means for financial security. In 1902 Holst would premiere his “Cotswolds Suite” (Op. 8) in Bournemouth, marking a change from being primarily a performer to a renowned composer.

This work is comprised of a single movement.
