The Spirit of England, Op. 80 by Sir Edward Elgar

Elgar completed this work for chorus, orchestra and soloist in 1917, with the premiere performance being given in October the same year in Birmingham. The vocals for this work are based on text from the poem ‘The Winnowing Fan’ by English poet Laurence Binyon. The work serves as a requiem for those who died in World War I.

The work is comprised of three movements:
I. "The Fourth of August" – Moderato e maestoso
II. "To Women" – Moderato
III. "For the Fallen" – Solenne
