Mozart would complete this symphony in July of 1772 at the age of 16. Mozart would use motifs from this work in his Piano Concerto No. 22, written 13 years later. Between the years 1770 and 1773, Mozart and his father Leopold would travel to Italy for the premiere of Mozart’s operettas ‘Ascanio in Alba’ and ‘Lucio Silla’. July of 1772 marks one of the brief periods when the family were together in Salzburg. Tempo markings on the manuscript are believed to have been made by Leopold Mozart.

The symphony is comprised of four movements:
I. Allegro
II. Andante
III. Menuetto – Trio
IV. Allegro
