In the aftermath of George Floyd’s 2020 murder, Black Lives Matter garnered an overwhelming $90 million in donations. However, the organization reported a $9 million shortfall in the last fiscal year.
Analysis of federal filings from 2020 to 2022 revealed that only about a third, or $30 million, of the total donations were channeled to other charitable causes, with operational expenses consuming $22 million. Notably, $1.6 million was paid for security services to the father of BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors, and another $2.1 million was directed to board member Shalomyah Bowers for consulting.
