Violent incidents in South Africa have already claimed 212 dead and more than 2500 arrested.
Police said that looting of shopping malls and stores was continuing and that foreign businesses were being attacked, reports Reuters.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had previously said that the riots had been "planned" and that the government would prosecute those responsible.
He also expressed concern about growing racial tensions in some parts of the country. Members of the white and Indian minority, who are generally better off than the black community, have armed themselves to confront rioters.
There have been reports of the theft of 1.5 million rounds of ammunition from the South African Army. It is believed that the police may be involved.
