Shortly after noon on November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated as he rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas.
“Let us not be petty when our cause is so great. Let us not quarrel amongst ourselves when our Nation's future is at stake. Let us stand together with renewed confidence in our cause…” – JFK in an undelivered speech intended for Austin, TX, 11/22/63 https://presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/remarks-intended-for-delivery-the-texas-democratic-state-committee-the-municipal
After the tragedy, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in on Air Force One, as acting President of the United States of America, before the plane leaves Dallas for Washington, D.C.
Lyndon's code name: Volunteer
Audio tapes discovered in 2013 from Air Force One on the day President Kennedy was assassinated November 22, 1963 https://youtu.be/Y2ExPowkomE Portions of the tapes are edited, missing conversation unknown. The tapes were found among personal effects of General Chester Clifton, Jr a military aid to JFK.
The "wink" photograph, a shot of LBJ receiving a wink from Congressman Albert Thomas after the swearing in on AF1. Both Johnson and Thomas were members of Suite 8F Group, the origins of a company today known as Kellogg, Brown & Root. With Kennedy assassinated, the war remained on schedule, Johnson would be President, and both men would be rich. Mrs. Jackie Kennedy distraught and still in shock, washed her face of her husband’s blood for this swearing in with her husband's body stowed in the rear of the plane. In the tapes, Jackie Kennedy allegedly blames President Lyndon Johnson for the death of JFK. (Wink photo by Cecil Stoughton)
