Part of my email to the California Air & Resources Board and to my county's Air Pollution Control District Manager:
During the intense period of rain in March of this year, which included a tornado alert, I began to observe the skies. One day, we had hail stones that were so large, I decided to collect a sample for analysis. I contacted McCampbell Analytical Inc, and filled out a COC for each sample (as I started collecting rain samples).
Below, I will share the results of my hail and rain samples. I am concerned by the fact that an assortment of heavy metals were found in all of my Analytical Reports.
The most consistent metals detected were:
Aluminum, Barium, Chromium, Copper, Lead, Nickel, Silver, Strontium, Titanium, Vanadium, and Zinc.
I am writing to request that the board examines my attached analytical reports for the following dates:
Sample Results (snapshot): Units ug/L
I would like CARB and the Tuolumne Air Pollution Control District to respond with the following information:
1. What are the established exposure limits (both inhalation & ingestion) for these metals?
2. What industries are these metals coming from (please include sources & data)?
3. What steps are you taking to ensure that California residents are protected from heavy metals and other contaminants in the air and water?
