HUNDREDS OF GOATS AND SHEEPS DIED OVERNIGHT MAY 2020

An unfortunate incident happened this May 2020 to the three Nomadic families in Kashmir who have lost more than 100 sheeps and goats overnight.

It is heartbreaking to see the families who have lost the very thing that defines them as Nomads.

Who would think that in just one single night everything would be gone?

What exactly had happened?

How did these animals die?

It would take couple of months in commercial farms to grow sheep and goats to attain the saleable price.

But in the case of the Nomads, the animals they grow is like a family to them, the flocks were part of their daily lives as they also earn living from them.

Last May 5, 2020 a major thunderstorm hit the village of Rajouri, Kashmir where the said families resided.

At 2 am a deadly lighting hit the flock in just one strike killing more than 100 sheeps and goats who were kept in an open field.

According to an official, the families were on a seasonal move and just arrived the village few weeks ago and erected tents.

People had gathered in the morning out of concern to the families who have lost their living.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Sheikh Nazir visited the spot and announced Rs 50 thousand will be given to each to each family under Red Cross fund as compensation.

“I have directed concerned department to allot the sheep units to each one of them,” Deputy Commisioner said.

Though the families had lost their sheeps and goats but thanks to the quick response of the officials to help the family.
