Monsanto, now owned by Bayer AG, has been producing and selling glyphosate-based weedkillers for decades. Recently, the company’s Roundup product—which contains the chemical glyphosate—has caused alarm among some consumer groups. They are concerned about the potential long-term effects of glyphosate on human health when it is ingested through food products such as cereal grains and vegetables in the food supply.

The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer has declared that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans." This statement has prompted further scrutiny from food safety advocates who are questioning how much of this potentially dangerous chemical is making its way into our food supply.
