Today, November 15th 2021, the NZ Government has enforced a mandate for health care workers which means it will be illegal for Midwives to provide care for women and their babies in our communities. 8-10% of our profession feel strongly against this mandate, which takes away our freedom and right to choose. No medical procedure should come with coercion, nor should we have our livelihood taken away for standing up for ourselves, our women and our future generations. Today, is a heartbreaking day for everyone affected. We live in hope that the mandates are short lived, and we are able to return to our community, and rejoin our already stretched profession.
