China's Taiwan Office: We Will Sincerely Pursue Peaceful Reunification but Reserve Option of Force

Chen Binhua, the spokesman of the Chinese State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said in a press statement that was posted on the New China TV YouTube channel on March 10, 2024 that peaceful reunification is the basic principle for solving the Taiwan issue and that it serves the interests of the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. He said that China will sincerely pursue peaceful reunification, but that it will reserve the option to take any measures necessary to achieve national reunification, including the use of force. He also said that the current situation is complex because the Taiwanese DPP has been working with "external forces" to incite Taiwanese independence. He added that China is strong and will advance national reunification while frustrating any attempts to divide the country.
