Food Ideas for Ray Peat Inspired Bioenergetic Nutrition
Some things I've learned from Ray Peat about a nutritional strategy to help support a high metabolic rate as indicated by the resting pulse rate and underarm temperature include:⠀
— Collecting information about your current rate of metabolism ("Without a realistic view of where you are, you can't expect to go anywhere.")⠀
— Maintaining a favorable calcium to phosphate ratio (~1500-2000+ mg of calcium per day)
— Favoring sugars over starches⠀
— Favoring saturated fats over unsaturated fats⠀
— Adequate protein (~80-100+ grams per day)
— Regular consumption of "supplemental foods" (e.g., ruminant liver, oysters, eggs, coffee, salt, etc.)⠀
— Regular consumption of the "antibiotic-like" foods (e.g., raw carrot, well-cooked white button mushrooms, bamboo shoots)⠀
— Regular exposure to red light⠀
— Exploring ways to mitigate the stressful culture in order to maintain a simulating life
"Keeping the metabolic rate up is the main thing, and there are lots of ways to do it." Ray Peat (2015)
"Despite the presence of all the required nutrients, that would be adequate for someone with a generally supportive environment, a 'good' diet won’t necessarily be adequate for someone with a problematic environment, or a history of stressful experiences." Raymond Peat (2019)⠀
"The simplicity of things such as supplementing thyroid, progesterone, and sugar, avoiding an excess of phosphate in relation to calcium, and avoiding polyunsaturated fats, makes it possible for people to take action themselves, without having to depend on the medical system." Heart and Hormones by Ray Peat (2013)⠀
"I have experimentally reversed a variety of degenerative changes with special nutrition, but the problem always exists within a particular person's physiology, and can't necessarily be solved by a standardized diet. You have to learn to know what your body needs at a particular time." Nutrition for Women by Ray Peat (1973)
"If our environment fails us a little today, our needs will be much greater tomorrow." Nutrition for Women by Ray Peat (1973)
