Prince Rotislav, Symphonic Poem in D minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff

Rachmaninoff completed this work for orchestra in 1891 while the composer was a student at the Moscow Conservatory of Music. The first confirmed public performance of Prince Rotislav took place in November of 1945 in Moscow. Rachmaninoff based the work on a ballad of the same name by Russian author Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy. The work is dedicated to Anton Arensky, a teacher at the Moscow Conservatory.
