Coriolan Overture, Op. 62 by Ludwig van Beethoven

Beethoven completed this overture in 1807, with the premiere performance being given in March the same year in the home of Prince Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz. The work is based on the play ‘Coriolan’ by Austrian playwright Heinrich Joseph von Collin, which in turn is a dramatization of the life of the Roman General Marcius Coriolanus.
