Jeffrey Sachs is an American economist, academic, public policy analyst, and former director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he holds the title of University Professor[1][2]. He is known for his work on sustainable development, economic development, and the fight to end poverty[2]. Sachs is a world-renowned professor of economics, leader in sustainable development, senior UN advisor, bestselling author, and syndicated columnist[3]. His monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 100 countries[3].
Sachs has received several accolades for his work, including being the co-recipient of the 2015 Blue Planet Prize, the leading global prize for environmental leadership[2]. He has also been named twice among Time magazine's 100 most influential world leaders[1]. Prior to joining Columbia University, Sachs spent over twenty years as a professor at Harvard University[1]. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg, Austria[3].
Sachs is the co-founder and chief strategist of Millennium Promise Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty and hunger[2]. He was the director of the United Nations Millennium Project's work on the MDGs from 2002 to 2006[2]. Sachs is also the co-editor of the World Happiness Report with John F. Helliwell and Richard Layard[2].
