Mouchette (1967) Robert Bresson

Robert Bresson's 1967 Mouchette, based off of a novel of the same by George Bernarnos, centers on the life of a poor girl in the French countryside. Impoverished and living in a hellish domestic environment, Mouchette is looked down upon with a mixture of disgust and pity in her village, as she enters womanhood.

Considered one of Robert Bresson's greatest works, it was a favorite of Russian auteur Andrey Tarkovsky.
