Dr Mark Hobart, a respected family GP for 3 decades, was today invaded by 7 authorised officers from the Victorian Dept of Health who seized his confidential patient files, his appointment book and various other documents. He wasn't even served a warrant .. they just marched in and seized the files with no reason given.
This means that the government can go to any doctor's surgery, enter their premises and seize their patients' files for no reason.
These officers told him that there is no such thing as patient confidentiality under the new laws. Apparently these new laws came out in 2008.. the public health and well-being act, sections 170 and 190. Also AHPRA under their national law cast in 2009 can order that doctors hand over their files without patient consent.
