US military footage showing a high-tech missile defence system capable of hitting incoming nukes as they bear down on their target from SPACE has been released by the United States military.
The next-generation SM-3 Block IIA rocket was launched from a US warship off the coast of Hawaii and reached “speeds of thousands of miles an hour” before smashing into its target on the outer edges of Earth’s atmosphere.
Striking video released by the US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) shows the moment the hit-to-kill interceptor careers into its target at more than 10 times the speed of sound and explodes sending a huge shockwave into space.
The new weapon is a cutting-edge anti-missile system being developed by Washington which uses the latest technology to guide the rocket to its destination. But instead of carrying explosives, the missile is equipped with a “kinetic warhead” designed to “demolish its targets by sheer impact”, according to the firm behind the weapon.
