Classical Liberalism is something widely misunderstood and often you will find there are many people who claim to support such a position, however, they don't fully understand what a free market is or perhaps the history, therefore, are easily swayed in the opposite direction. This does not mean that Classical Liberalism is a precursor of Fascism, it merely means that with any system or ideology, you will find people who are misinformed easier to sway the opinion of.
Classical Liberalism is something completely opposite to that of fascism as one is inherently collectivist, the other is strongly in defense of individualism, therefore, they are both complete opposites to one another. I hear the term Alt-Right a lot, which is a new term that was created more recently, yet it seems to me that it is really just made up of people of different views.
Just because people support the same social policies, does not mean to say they are the same politically or economically, it's a bit like saying socialists who support gay marriage are the same as that of political libertarians, yet the two are the complete opposite of each other. It is because of the mainstream media and state education that people become indoctrinated to believe that the free market is somehow evil or a failure, therefore, we must avoid it at all cost. This is why most people support the mixed economy having been fed a pack of lies about the industrial revolution time period of history and is why people are easily led to the position of strong protectionism under government. This doesn't mean Classical Liberalism is the reason for why they ended up in that position, however.
