The lyrics for Westerwald or Westerwaldlied were written in 1932 by Willi Münker and set to music created by Joseph Neuhäuser in 1935. The song remained popular well after the Wehrmacht disbanded and its usage was stopped only in 2017 because some believe it is a "nazi" song even though there is zero mention of anything even barely related to Adolf Hitler or National-Socialism or Fascism. It is an apolitical song which in the begging was a folksong and then became a military song as well.
