Vemico 4K Sports Action Camera V3

You certainly get a lot for your money with this new action camera kit from Vemico. Reduced, we are told from £99.99 to the current £62.99 with action camera prices continuing to fall this has to be judged as a budget camera and on that basis is hard to find fault with.

The camera and accessories arrived packaged in a large and rather upmarket box which belies the low price. A full range of accessories and mounts are included including most notably a remote control with wrist strap, two batteries and a battery charger. The only omission is the lack of an SD card. It is a pity about the SD card as they are cheap enough these days and would not add greatly to the cost and would allow the camera to be used straight from the box. The printed User Guide although brief is distinctly superior to those usually found, and is a decent size, well printed in colour and easy to read. I attach a copy of the guide to my unboxing video. Run the video full frame and pause as needed to read it.

The camera itself, which resembles almost exactly every other action camera of this type bar the tiny secondary LCD screen on the front, is not bad for the money. Video quality is not the best I have seen but a definite step up from many of the cheaper no-name GoPro clones. The 170° angle of view is great but with the barrel distortion common to all lenses of this type. This camera does a perfectly decent quality 4K@30fps – although the exact resolution is not defined I suspect it is less than the industry standard 3840×2160 -as well several other rather more useful modes including 1080P@60fps and 720P 90fps slow motion. The slow motion is OK but at 90fps is falls behind than on some rival action cameras and not so good as my 240fps Nexus 6P phone. Still images were good with the right lighting but as with video also a tendency to overexpose and burn out highlights. However, with the right subject in even lighting, it was capable of producing excellent results for both video and stills. Re..
