Violin Concerto No. 1 in B flat major, K. 207 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Mozart completed his first violin concerto in 1773 at the age of 17. Mozart would compose only five violin concertos, all of which would be completed between 1773 and 1775. This unusual burst of creativity specifically focused on the violin concerto format is likely due to two reasons. Firstly, Mozart was as adept at the violin as he was at the piano, and wanted to compose music to allow him to demonstrate his ability. Secondly, his new role as court musician to Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo required the composition of new material for the court orchestra to perform.
For whatever reason, Mozart would no longer favour the violin concerto format after 1775, but would compose several violin sonatas and collections for string ensembles.
This concerto is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro moderato
II. Adagio
III. Presto
