The Gateway Mall in Bismarck, ND opened in 1979. I made the mistake of saying that it was the first mall in Bismarck. The Kirkwood mall in South Bismarck was opened 9 years earlier.

The mall has one anchor, Sears, and has very little open after 5pm even on weekdays. It is primarily used as a large health clinic, doctor's visits en masse!

Update 2020:The Sears closed in 2018.

The middle atrium, while it was built in '79 is very Mid-Century Modern. It would have looked in style back in 1959.
