Judge to Arrest President Trump If He Skips Just 1 Day of Trial

New York Judge Juan Merchan issued a stern warning to former President Donald Trump, cautioning that he could face arrest should he disrupt the trial proceedings or fail to attend his hush money case trial in Manhattan. This warning came in light of allegations from prosecutors that Trump had violated a gag order. Despite Trump's attempts to delay the trial, he appeared in Manhattan court on Monday to face 34 felony charges related to alleged falsification of business documents concerning hush money payments to former adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump's attorney, Todd Blanche, emphasized Trump's desire to participate fully in the trial proceedings. However, Judge Merchan highlighted potential logistical challenges posed by Trump's presence, particularly regarding Secret Service arrangements. Merchan stressed that any disruption by Trump could result in jail time and subsequent proceedings in his absence. This warning coincides with prosecutors' efforts to hold Trump in contempt for social media criticisms of potential witnesses. Additionally, Trump's attempts to delay proceedings, including a request for Merchan's recusal, were unsuccessful. Merchan further cautioned Trump that skipping the trial without a valid reason could lead to an arrest warrant, a standard procedure in New York known as the Parker Warning. Earlier that day, Merchan declined to immediately rule on Trump's request to miss a trial session for his son Barron Trump's high school graduation, citing trial progress as a factor in his decision-making.
