Mozart completed this piano concerto in 1776 at the age of 20, with the first performance of this work being given Munich in 1777. At this time Mozart was working as court musician for Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo in Salzberg.

The concerto is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro aperto
II. Andante un poco adagio
III. Rondeau: Allegro
