Unwavering Unrest In Columbia, Gender Non-Binary Entomology, and Guaranteed Recidivism

As governments around the world struggle to find ways to mitigate the financial losses, accrued as a result of ongoing COVID-19 excused shutdowns, it seems as though Columbia is having to learn the hard way that increasing taxes (on those who can’t afford tax increases) isn’t a particularly bright idea.
At least 19 people are dead, and hundreds more are injured as protests have raged throughout the country.
Real news is tough to come by, but TikTok is rampant with footage of brutality and pleas for help, as Colombians continue to demonstrate against proposed tax increases. President Iván Duque announced that he would withdraw the tax increases, and the finance minister resigned on Monday, but it seems as though the Colombian people are completely fed up with being asked to carry the burden for the bourgeoisie.
Some have suggested that the government is shutting down internet services, in an effort to stifle the spread of information.
How fortunate we in the United States are, to rest easy in the hands of our corporate fascist dictators, while we observe such turmoil in far flung lands that provide us with the recreational yayo we’ve come to expect as a benefit of our unwavering subservience to our masters, so we can focus on more important issues, like a non-binary name for a new species of Ecuadorian ant.
American singer-songwriter Michael Stipe, of rock band REM, and Douglas Booher of Yale University in America, named the trap-jawed insect “They”, in honor of their mutual friend, activist and artist Jeremy Ayers, who died in 2016.
Dr Booher said: “Such a beautiful and rare animal was just the species to celebrate both biological and human diversity. Small changes in language have had a large impact on culture. Language is dynamic and so should be the change in naming species – a basic language of science.”
