This is the famous Bible story where King Nebuchedezzar has a vision of a great tree that is chopped down, and receives the interpretation from Daniel that the tree is himself. His unrepentant pride results in God's judgement and he is driven insane and becomes like an animal, even to the point of eating grass.. It illustrates how pride is the deadliest sin of and always leads to destruction as Prov. 16:18 says “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
God humbles the proud until they acknowledge that God is the Almighty creator who deserves all the glory. This is a teaching for all of us on the greatest sin – PRIDE. Everyone hates it when they see pride in others, yet pride is the most difficult thing to see in ourselves.
Here we see King Nebuchadnezzar have a vision of himself as a great tree that is chopped down. As he boasts "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!" The king then looses his mind and goes insane for 7 years and becomes animal like until he finally repents, looks to heaven and acknolwedges that God Almighty is in control of man's kingdoms and God appoints and removes world leaders.
Do you worry about your little kingdom of material things, or do you give praise, thanks and glory to God for providing it to you?
