marvin gaye - I heard it through the grapevine - stereo remix
Edit for headphones, December 2022. For seven weeks a number one hit in the USA, in spite of Motown's big chief Berry Gordy, who had blocked its release for over a year and eight months, acting the smarts ass who thinks he knows all... like dumbo Musk.* Recorded during various sessions between February 3 till April 10, 1967 it finally was released as a single in October 1968.
The recordings took more than a month due to producer Norman Whitfield overdubbing Gaye's vocals with that of "The Andantes"' background vocals, mixing in several tracks featuring "The Funk Brothers" on the rhythm track, and adding the string section from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with an arrangement by Paul Riser.
A big number 1 hit in the USA for seven weeks, a number 1 hit in the UK, 2 in Poland, 3 South Africa, 7 Ireland, 8 Canada, 25 Holland. Biggest Motown hit ever, I read somewhwere... there you go Berry !
* Take care if you consider buying a Tesla car: for some a new battery pack costs over 45,000 euro's, that's over 47,000 dollar... (The faster you load a battery, the shorter its life !)
I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
(Barrett Strong/Norman Whitfield)
ooo I bet you're wonderin' how I knew
'bout your plans to make me blue
with some other guy you knew before
between the two of us guys
you know I loved you more
it took me by surprise I must say
when I found out yesterday
don't you know that
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
ooo I heard it through the grapevine
oh just about to lose my mind
honey honey well
I know a man ain't supposed to cry
but these tears I can't hold inside
losin' you would end my life you see
'cause you mean that much to me
you could have told me yourself
that you love someone else
instead I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
ooo I heard it through the grapevine
and I'm just about to lose my mind
honey honey well
people say believe half of what you see
son and none of what you hear
but I can't help being confused
if it's true please tell me then
do you plan to let me go
for the other guy you loved before
don't you know I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
baby I heard it through the grapevine
ooo I'm just about to lose my mind
honey honey yeah
honey honey I know
that you let me go
said I heard it through the grapevine
ooo heard it through the grapevine
