During the winter season, I’ve noticed specific foods that intensify my acne:
- Butter: I have a fondness for pure “makkhan” with chapatis in the colder months. Butter, being a dairy product, can contain hormones and growth factors. Consuming these lead to elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in the body and trigger acne.
- Aaloo ka Parantha: This becomes a winter staple for me, often prepared with generous amounts of ghee and served with an extra layer of butter. Unfortunately, this combination has a noticeable impact on my skin, triggering breakouts.
- Tea (3x): With the onset of winter, my tea consumption surges from once to three times a day. My preferred preparation includes milk and sugar. Consuming dairy can lead to an increase in insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in the body. Elevated levels of IGF-1 can stimulate sebum production in the skin, which can clog pores and lead to acne.
While these winter delights are hard to resist, I prioritize timely acne treatment to prevent any lasting scars.
It’s always a good idea for individuals to monitor their diet and observe how specific foods impact their skin.
