Sen. Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) went on the radio to bash the Republican tax cut plan and promote Gov. Evers’ 10% middle class tax cut plan.

The Republican plan would cut rates across all tax brackets. Evers’ plan would give a 10% tax cut only to individuals making $100,000 or less and married couples making $150,000 or less.

He argued that a married couple making $150,000 would get a $15,000 cut under Evers’ plan. That would only be true if they were paying 100% of their income in taxes.

A couple making $150,000 currently pays about $7,540 in Wisconsin state income taxes (gross). 10% would be $754. (Under the Republican plan, that same couple should get a 14% cut).

On May 8th, the Rock County Board of Supervisors’ Staff Committee considered a resolution to declare “June 25 - July 2, 2023 as Stand Against Illegal Immigration days in the County of Rock and encourages residents, local businesses, educators, and community and faith-based organizations to engage in thoughtful dialogue, education, and advocacy for the enforcement of immigration laws, the development of a fair, efficient, and sustainable legal immigration system, and to support the efforts of NumbersUSA in raising awareness about responsible immigration policy."

Several members of the public submitted comments: 8 were against it and 6 were for it.

The only two Hispanics who weighed in registered in favor of the resolution, speaking of the need to secure the border.

Those who spoke against the resolution said it was racist and “nationalistic,” white people were the first illegal immigrants in Rock County, and that “we’re a progressive county.”

The committee did not discuss the resolution. None of the members would even make the motion to vote on it.

Republicans and Democrats in Washington agree on banning Russian energy imports - but strongly disagree about how to backfill that capacity. Congressman Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) says we need to increase energy production and not be picky about whether it comes from fossil fuels or renewable sources. For the Biden Administration, however, the war on Russia is an opportunity to advance its war on fossil fuels. It doesn't seem to matter that renewable energy will not be available in high enough quantities to offset the Russian oil ban. Meanwhile, Congressman Bryan Steil (R-Janesville) explains the warm days of summer won't last for long.

Raising the interest rate might help fight inflation, but it could come at a hefty price.

The national debt rocketed past $30 trillion this year. Raising the interest rate raises the debt service payments, and those cannot be deferred.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate is now at 8.4% for the year. On May 5th, the federal reserve raised the interest rate from 0.5% to 1%. Higher interest rates supposedly slow down inflation, but it also means an extra $100 billion interest payment on the debt. That's just the beginning.

Congressman Bryan Steil might not be the only one predicting the Fed will raise interest rates again, but he is a lone voice pointing out how high those interest rates could very well go, and what that means for the federal government's debt service payments.

Sen. Melissa Agard (D-Madison) encouraged high schoolers to keep fighting for their “right” to have an abortion during a protest in Madison on Friday.

Sen. Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) has some harsh words for anyone who thinks a vaccine passport is anything like having to wear the Star of David in Nazi Germany – and he had no problem swearing during a public hearing in the State Capitol.

The Senate Health Committee held a public hearing for five bills that would prevent the discriminate of people who haven’t gotten the Covid vaccine. Those included two bills that would ban vaccine passports in Wisconsin.

Despite verifiable examples of segregating and marking unvaccinated individuals in Wisconsin, Carpenter calls it “conspiracy theory.”

Dec. 21, 2021 - Wisconsin health officials say a "viral blizzard" is about to hit Wisconsin. They say the state's healthcare system is at the breaking point, and we haven't even really seen omicron yet. Patients are doubled up everywhere at places like Marshfield Clinic, but the state says there's not a space problem. Marshfield clinic says it's pulling staff from everywhere to help out, but firing almost a hundred workers for not getting vaccinated is a non-factor. Health officials seem unanimous in their opinion that "the unvaccinated" are entirely to blame.

Jan. 6, 2022 - CDC drops term "fully vaccinated" and replaces it with "up to date" on Covid-19 vaccines; Quarantine times decreases to 5 days isolation and 5 days wearing a mask. Here's Wisconsin DHS issuing the new guidance.
