On May 8th, the Rock County Board of Supervisors’ Staff Committee considered a resolution to declare “June 25 - July 2, 2023 as Stand Against Illegal Immigration days in the County of Rock and encourages residents, local businesses, educators, and community and faith-based organizations to engage in thoughtful dialogue, education, and advocacy for the enforcement of immigration laws, the development of a fair, efficient, and sustainable legal immigration system, and to support the efforts of NumbersUSA in raising awareness about responsible immigration policy."
Several members of the public submitted comments: 8 were against it and 6 were for it.
The only two Hispanics who weighed in registered in favor of the resolution, speaking of the need to secure the border.
Those who spoke against the resolution said it was racist and “nationalistic,” white people were the first illegal immigrants in Rock County, and that “we’re a progressive county.”
The committee did not discuss the resolution. None of the members would even make the motion to vote on it.
