Beautiful old headstones in a desert graveyard. This cemetery was beautiful in a whole different way. It was remote and dusty, yet the people buried here, lived in this area because they loved it or because they wanted to. This part of the country was home - maybe all they ever knew. So who are we to say what is beautiful?

What a history the St. James Hotel has. I think it's best known for it's lawlessness (and holes in the tin ceiling from bullets). When you think of the "Old West", this place might just be the image you're conjuring up in your head. It was known as Lambert's Place and since there was no law enforcement, most arguments were settled with guns, and 26 people's lives were ended this way. Some say it's haunted - that might just be because of the gunfights that didn't end well.

There are many websites that you can find that tell colorful stories about residents of Cimarron and it's goings on and the well-known corruption. You can read all day long and begin to feel like you've actually gone back in time and lived part of it's past.

This was such a beautiful cemetery. It is the Sierra Vista Cemetery in Taos, New Mexico. This will be in three or four parts so the video isn't an hour long. There were some of the most unusual headstones I've ever seen. There was a light dusting of snow at the Taos Ski Area and it was getting cold and was starting to sprinkle. I hope you enjoy the video.

I don't even remember what day this was of our journey. My son stopped documenting because there was too much to see to write and by the time we settled in for the evening, we were just too tired. So I will guess it is around day 9. The river was gorgeous. If you follow it out just a bit - maybe 1/8 mile, it goes into the ocean. We looked for a place to camp around here but the only camping was expensive campgrounds. We didn't need any hookups, so I just didn't see the sense in paying just to park my van somewhere - so we headed out into the forest for some boondocking.

The scenery around here was unbelievable. We did drive back to where the river meets the ocean and you can walk down a little trail to get to the beach, but we didn't. The sun was going down and I wanted to find a place for us to camp. There were the most colorful and abundant flowers I have ever seen. There were fern that were nearly as tall as me. I felt like I was in Jurassic Park.......

We were still in the Redwood National Forest and the name of this particular site of interest is River On The Rampage. It was quite a sad story. This is at The Douglas Memorial Bridge that was sadly destroyed by a flood in 1964. The town of Klammath was rebuilt after the flood, on higher ground.

I hope you enjoy.

We decided to go the back road on our way camping in the Pecos, and stopped at Lamy, New Mexico. It was a scorching day, but I took some fun pictures and wanted to share them. There were people waiting for the train, and across the street is a restaurant and B & B. One of the old coaches has been turned into a restaurant right next to the station, but it wasn't open when we went through.

It's a tiny town, but it was fun and very scenic. I am putting some links below in case you'd like a little history about Lamy. It's quite fascinating!

This is week two of our trip from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Oregon. We picked up my brother and went to Astoria and down the coast. We stayed in Astoria at my brother's friend's apartment overlooking the Columbia River. I stayed in the van overnight but my brother and my son wanted to sleep inside. I loved the smell of the salty ocean air and the cool breeze (finally) through my van windows that night.

As we walked up to the apartment, there was a mommy deer and her two babies. What a treat that was! Mom ran off but the babies just kept munching on the grass in front of the apartment. I took a bunch of pictures but nearly every one of them was blurry. I have no idea what was wrong with my camera but I did add one at the end of the video.

I don't know exactly what day this was, only that we were into our second week of the trip. We stayed overnight in Astoria and Sunday morning, we went to the Sunday Market. We ate clam chowder and tasted all the jellies and jams. I bought a beautiful framed piece of art and my son bought a watercolor. I'll do a separate video with pictures, but there was so much that it was hard to just pick out one favorite thing!

We headed down the coast in the early afternoon and went to Manzanita. We picked up some rockfish and cooked out near a river while my son ventured across a bridge into the trees nearby. My brother is such a great cook - he cooked the fish, some broccoli pasta and some fresh strawberries. What a treat!!! I'm so glad my son and I decided to go back again to spend more time with my brother. We stayed in Troutdale, at a truck stop since we were planning to leave the following morning, but as we were going through the Gorge, I just had to forget all the plans we had and the timing, and go back to see my brother. I didn't care about the deadlines we had - I went to see my brother, and spent the least time with him than anything else we did. So we sat at one of the waterfalls and called my brother to see if he had any..

Day two of my trip across country from New Mexico to Oregon, with my son. We drove in my Chevy van that I turned into a tiny home. We slept in the Walmart parking lot in Page, Arizona on the second night and early the next morning, we went to the dam just outside of Page and my son and I went swimming in Lake Powell. We had to do a bit of hiking to actually get down to the lake. There was no path - we just had to find our way down. The water was really pretty, sort of a greenish blue/aqua, and it was relatively warm. I expected it to be a lot colder than it was.

There was a white labrador retriever next to us that would swim in the lake and retrieve his ball and swim back to shore. He seemed to be having a great time. We saw people on jet skis and people on a boat, that were on a paid tour. We were pretty close to the dam and the landscape was stunning!

Thanks for watching!

This was such a beautiful place. My son and I were able to drive to a rocky beach and stroll down a path and watch the boats. There was an adorable octopus bench and a big grassy area for people to let their dogs run and play. It was such a joy being here. I loved the misty, foggy, coolness of Eureka. I'm a cool-weather person, so I'd fit right in. Most people love the sunshine and the heat but I'd rather be wrapped in a thick blanket drinking coffee at the beach than in a sunbathing in a swimsuit.

I hope you enjoy my video!
