Happy Chinese (快乐汉语) 2009-2010

On New Year's Eve, Mai Miao has told her uncle's family (the Li family) that she is going to bring a classmate from a "far away" home for Chinese New Year. While the young Lele is pestering Xiaowei to set off firecrackers, they meet an American lady who asks for directions. Xiaowei enthusiastically helps her out, but he points her in the wrong direction. This "American lady" turns out to be Mai Miao's classmate, Susan! By the end of the episode, though, Susan finally manages to find the hospitable Li family and spends a happy New Year's Eve with them.

除夕当天，麦苗告诉舅舅一家，她要带一个家在“远方”的同学回家过年。乐乐缠着小伟要放鞭炮时，碰到了一个问路的美国阿姨，小伟热心的给她指路，却指错了方向。这个“美国阿姨”原来就是麦苗的同学――苏珊。苏珊最终顺利找到李家，和这家热情好客的中国人一起度过了一个欢乐的除夕夜。

In this episode, Father Li (played by Zhang Shaorong) attaches great importance to the arrival of American student Susan (played by Maria Panait), and he orders the whole Li family to receive Susan according to the full standards of diplomatic formality. Xiaoyong (played by Xu Xiaoxing) comes to the Lis' house to pay them a New Year's greeting, but Susan and Mai Miao (played by Wu Xiaodan) play a small prank on him. Still, after meeting Susan, Xiaoyong invites everyone to his restaurant for a welcome banquet in Susan's honor. There, Susan learns a lot of New Year's greetings, but she keeps toasting Father Li, who soon ends up intoxicated. The next day, Father Li is shocked to learn from the family about his own drunken behavior. He is then further humiliated when Susan returns drunk from a night on the town and she sings and dances in imitation of Father Li's earlier drunkenness.

Susan finally gets up "early" (早), but finds that Father Li and Xiaowei have gotten up earlier than her. In the morning market, Susan finds a lot of signs that say "breakfast" (早点) and she asks to keep one of them. Father Li sees the "breakfast" sign on the back of Susan's bicycle, and thinks that Susan is going to work and study to open a breakfast shop. He and Mother Li prepare for Susan a large table of Chinese and Western breakfast foods, and they plan to give her some ideas.

Madam Wu, a friend of Mother Li, decides to introduce her niece to Xiaowei to be his girlfriend, but Xiaowei doesn't want to go on a blind date and is very distressed. Susan and Mai Miao decide to help him. At the date, Xiaowei can see that the niece is actually quite pretty. But when Susan rushes in pretending to be Xiaowei's fiancée in order to rescue him, the date is spoiled.

Susan (Maria Panait) hears that there is a famous Chinese dish, Peking duck, so she wants to eat it, but Mai Miao's parents can't cook it. Mai Miao's father knows that Peking duck has been offered in Xiaoyong's restaurant recently, so he calls Xiaoyong and arranges for Susan to go to and eat roast duck. However, when the duck is served in thin slices, Susan feels that the duck should be served whole and that she's been cheated. She tells Mai Miao about it, and Mai Miao goes to Xiaoyong to settle the account. Susan returns to Mai Miao's house and tells Mai Miao's parents about eating roast duck. Only then does she realize roast duck is SUPPOSED to served in slices, and she knows that she has misunderstood Xiaoyong, so she apologizes to him.

苏珊（玛丽亚饰）听到有一道中国名菜北京烤鸭，于是她特别想吃，麦苗的父母又不会做，麦苗的父亲知道小勇饭店里最近正在试制北京烤鸭，就给小勇他电话安排苏珊去小勇那吃烤鸭，但吃完以后苏珊觉得不对好像被骗了，她把这事告诉了麦苗，麦苗去找小勇算账了。苏珊回到了麦苗家把吃烤鸭的事告诉了麦苗的父母，才知道吃烤鸭是有讲究的，才是知道她误会了小勇，所以向小勇道了歉。本期节目通过北京烤鸭的吃法介绍了相关的汉语知识。 （快乐汉语 2009年 第9期）

Xiaoyong's restaurant has a new roast duck, and he invites Susan (Maria Panait) to try it. Susan takes Father Li (played by Zhang Shaorong) and Mother Li to try the food. Father and Mother Li are happy to accept the invitation, but find out that Susan's American custom is for each diner to pay their own way. When Susan finds this out, she takes Father and Mother Li out to have a meal again, but this time she applies the Chinese custom of paying for everyone she invited.

小勇的饭馆新添了烤鸭，邀请苏珊（玛丽亚饰）去试吃。苏珊带着李父（张绍荣饰）李母去试吃并提出请客。李父李母高兴赴约，结果发现按照苏珊国家的请客规矩，是提出请客，然后AA制。苏珊知道了后，用中国的请客规矩再次拉着李父李母出去吃了顿饭。 （快乐汉语 2009年 第10期）

Le Le's father and grandparents go to celebrate the 60th birthday of Le Le's father's second aunt, and they hand Le Le over to Susan (Maria Panait) and Mai Miao to watch, and tell them to make sure he does his homework. Susan likes to play games and can't control Le Le at all. Le Le doesn't listen to Mai Miao and finds various excuses to play games. Susan and Mai Miao want to go shopping, but no one would be watching Le Le, so they call Xiaoyong to help them watch Le Le finish his homework, but Xiaoyong falls asleep on the job.

乐乐的爸爸和乐乐的爷爷奶奶去给乐乐的爸爸的二姨过60大寿去了，他们就把乐乐交给了苏珊（玛丽亚饰）和麦苗看着，并嘱咐她们一定要让乐乐完成作业再玩游戏，苏珊喜欢玩游戏根本管不了乐乐，乐乐也不听麦苗的话，找各种借口玩游戏。苏珊和麦苗想去逛街可是又没有人看着乐乐，她们就把小勇叫来帮着她们看着乐乐完成作业，可是后来小勇却睡着了。 （快乐汉语 2009年 第11期）
