What is difficult to recognize in the pictures, but confirmed by the police: The attacker does not only strike with his fists. He has a knife in his hand. The investigators will later speak of "several stings on the buttocks, arm and thighs". The whole thing happened in broad daylight at Schönleinstraße underground station.
On February 20, 2019 at about 12:20 p.m. a 29-year-old homeless man at the subway station gets into a quarrel with two men he does not know at all, the reason for the quarrel is still unclear. On the shocking video, which is available to the Berliner Zeitung, you can see and hear how the two dark-dressed figures scream and insult the 29-year-old (wearing a wool cap and a rucksack) in Arabic.
Then one of the aggressors suddenly goes on the attack: He runs towards his victim and attacks him. To see during the whole scenery in the picture: A strong Berliner with beige trousers, who courageously and fearlessly tries to separate the opponents and then stands in front of the attacked 29-year-old. It is also he who suddenly calls out loudly: "Dude, put the knife away! And then he yells once more with all his might: "Put the knife away!!!" But in vain. The stabber chases after the homeless man who is fleeing in panic. And then stabs him ice-coldly and without hesitation.
Only when further witnesses intervene do the stabber and his accomplice abandon the severely injured 29-year-old. He drags himself a few meters further, drags a trail of blood behind him and finally remains completely exhausted and apathetic on the platform. Alarmed rescue workers take the man to a hospital where the homeless man is cared for. The police, who were also alerted, were able to arrest the stabber, a 28-year-old man with a migration background, shortly afterwards. He is now under trial for dangerous bodily harm.
