The Narrator tells Stanley that he's really trying to help him and asks to give him a chance. Stanley is given a chance between a red door and a blue door with The Narrator insisting that the red door be chosen. When Stanley chooses the red door, The Narrator feels relief that Stanley trusts him and introduces Stanley to a place where they both can be happy forever without choices to be made or anything else. It's a world of dancing lights and patterns and all Stanley has to do is to stop moving and stay in this moment. Stanley of course disagrees with this. If we stop now, there's no more progress. Progress is how we truly stay alive and ironically Stanley must end his life to get out of this still moment and get back to the way things were so progress may continue. Each leap from the stairs in the back area makes The Narrator more and more depressed. The Narrator pleads with Stanley to stop throwing himself from the top of the stairs in the back area. The Narrator wishes to stay in room with the dancing lights so that he can be happy and not be a narrator anymore, but Stanley has decided to end it all so that the game may restart. The Narrator weeps shortly before everything resets, but progress continues and choices will be made once more.
