Grey's Scouts on Exercise (1977)

The Greys Scouts were a mounted infantry unit. Horses were used to get to the contact area and once there they fought as infantrymen. The major on foot in the video was Major Stevens, who left the unit early.

"In Rhodesia, Army and Police units were out chasing guerrillas after massive incursions from over the border. The incidents were believed by military sources in Rhodesia to be linked to a massive campaign to recruit black Rhodesians for Joshua Nkomo's Zimbabwe African Peoples' Union. Since the beginning of the year, at least 600 black Rhodesians have been led to Botswana and then onto Zambia to the north for guerrilla training. ZAPU appears to be bent on increasing its forces to match those of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), whose guerrillas operate out of Mozambique. The Rhodesian Army has been successful in capturing the majority of the guerrillas who infiltrate across the border, but they are looking for new methods of catching them. one of these is the use of scouts on horseback who are able to pursue men on foot with greater agility than if they were motorized.
