Hermann Hesse - Bhagavad Gita
Again I lay sleepless hour after hour,
My soul full and sore of incomprehensible sorrow.
Fire and death I saw blazing on earth,
Thousands innocent suffer, die, modern.
And I renounced war in my heart
As the blind god of senseless pain.
See, there in the hour of dreary loneliness,
memory was sounding to me
And there spoke to me the spell of peace
An ancient Indian book of gods:
"War and peace, both are equal,
For no death touches the realm of the spirit.
Whether the bowl of peace rises or falls,
The woe of the world remains undiminished.
Therefore fight and do not lie still;
That you stir up strength is God's will!
But whether your struggle leads to a thousand victories,
The heart of the world continues to beat untouched.
