In this 5 minute video I demonstrate the reaction of cupric anthranilate with hydrogen sulfide gas. I reacted all of my anthranilic acid with copper(II) sulfate solution to convert all of it to cupric anthranilate. Decanting and washing produced a suspension of cupric anthranilate free of the impurities. This was then reacted with hydrogen sulfide gas produced by the reaction of sulfuric acid with sodium sulfide to create free anthranilic acid and copper(II) sulfide. The anthranilic acid solution is filtered to remove the copper sulfide precipitate and then the solution is evaporated in an evaporating dish above a boiling water bath. Recrystallize from boiling water as shown in the anthranilic acid video to obtain the pure anthranilic acid.
