On October 8, 2013, developer Quantic Dream released a drama-action adventure game, Beyond: Two Souls, for the Playstation 3 only. The game is besprinkled with psychological, spiritual, and thriller elements, and focuses on what happens after death.
Players take control of Jodie Holmes at varying stages, from 8 through 23. Jodie is on a journey to learn the true meaning of a being called Aiden, who has been with her for as long as she can remember. The game's producer noted that players might be able to find out "what lies beyond" after playing it.
After a tutorial period, the game begins to assume a player has learned specific commands: Hold L1 while pulling back on both thumbsticks followed by a release of L1 will cause Aiden to strike an object (flipping tables, shattering ceiling lamps, etc.), for instance. Early on, often a prompt for what button press or thumbstick motion is required will be displayed. While there is action, the game focuses greatly on storytelling, creating a more immersive experience. And now, enough description—Let's Play Beyond: Two Souls!
