We think a penance is 3 Hail Marys and 2 Our Fathers, those aren't real penances. If Priests today were actually taught Dogmatic Theology by Doctor Of The Church St. Alphonsus Ligouri, they would be using his manual On Confession and there they would learn what are real penances and why Priests are to refuse absolution to those not ready for it.
