Sparrow Song

the sparrow came along
sang a quick song, was gone
that's about when things
started going wrong
the milk had turned sour
i slipped in the shower
found mice in the rice
my garden devoured
by an army of bugs
supported by slugs
i'd trade day for night
to be rid of these thugs
it could be a curse
maybe it's worse
could be a test
pass and be blessed
and it's sad ya
my golden hen
has been plucked out
in the foxes den
everything about this day
has been awful
and on a scale of 1 to 10
i'm feelin like a 2 again
things ain't been the same
since then
but i keep pushing on
knowing nothing
in this life
happens without reason
there's meaning in the seasons
and the colours she finds pleasing
it's like she's lost her appetite
to paint
her canvass remains white
but the good
beautiful and true
flow through other pursuits too
and maybe when the hunger hits
she'll plant a seed
nurture it
the sky and sun
do what they do
make green
by mixing yellow
to blue
i hope she ponders
on the stars above
and feels overwhelming love
and maybe even name it's name
in time
or not
it's all the same
because none of us
are without shins
it's where you go
not where you've been
you'll always be
where you need to be
to see the things
you're meant to see
like subtle synchronicity
says hummingbird
to bumblebee
burdened by prosperity
and troubled
by the turning leaves
i'm saving up energy
it's a long flight to the florida keys
may i have some
of that pollen please
don't make me beg
i don't have knees
wintertime's just not for me
the thought of snow
gives me the creeps
i dream of flowers
when i sleep
the little red ones
taste so sweet
i woke up today
feelin great
climbing upwards
to an 8
something new is taking shape
a melody
a landscape
i juice an orange
discard the pith
an other ominous monoliths
i love it here
but i can't stay
there's a pull
pushing me away
and i stole this tune
it's true
but i stole it just for you
