Sign of the Sun (1997, PC)

Sign of the Sun is an action-adventure by British company International Computer Entertainment and released by Dutch company Project Two Interactive. The story is set in the near future where a series of nuclear disaster have caused the Earth getting nearer to the sun. This led to an increase in temperature and much of Earth's surface has become a hostile desert. Yet, there is some hope, as a new ore has been discovered which could protect against the sun's heat and radiation. A single pilot, James Mariner, is sent out in an experimental spaceship to send a probe with the ore into the sun to check if the ore has the desired properties. Unfortunately, a solar flare occurs when the probe meets the sun, hitting Mariner's ship and ultimately causing it to fall into the sun. But instead of dying, Mariner is transferred to a strange and hostile land.
The game is in part a point-and-click adventure, but it also incorporates a fighting system. The James can be either moved with the mouse by clicking, or controlled directly with the keyboard. The keyboard controls are tank controls like in Alone in the Dark or Resident Evil. Some actions can only be performed using the keyboard, like using, examining, punching and firing weapons.
