THE NAG HAMMADI CODICES The Nag Hammadi library is a collection of thirteen ancient manuscripts discovered in a cave in upper (southern) Egypt in 1945. It was an astounding, extremely important find that revealed the thinking of the earliest disciples of Jesus, who are known as the Gnostics. Many of the Gnostic beliefs are in stark contrast to the writings of the early disciples connected to the Pauline Roman Christians, as recorded in the New Testament. The English translation of the codices was completed in the 1970s and offers actual dialogues of the disciples, as though written in a screenplay. This discovery caused a major reevaluation of early Christian history and presented a comprehensive explanation of the Gnostics and Gnosticism. And the Gnostic codices are the earliest sources of information about the Archons.
