Steamgear Mash (1998, Saturn)

Steamgear Mash is a shoot'em up and platformer which was developed by Tamsoft and published by Takara. You control a friendly robot called Mash whose best friend, Mina, has been kidnapped by the evil Gash. Naturally, Mash goes after Gash to free Mina.
The game is played from isometric view. The levels are divided into smaller and larger rooms and have several floors. Mash is equipped with a gun with limited range, which he also charge up for a powerful shot. He starts with a secondary weapon and can find additional secondary weapons during the game. These require ammunition, which is randomly dropped by defeated enemies. Like with Mega Man, enemies respawn if you revisit an area. Mash can also lock on the direction his facing (for shooting) or hold his position during shooting. He find new techniques during the game, like rotating the upper part of his body to enable roundhouse shots.
